Interview: Battle of Nodes
Published 30th March 2023 by EGLD Community - Team
The MultiversX ecosystem is full of great projects backed by founders and teams with inspiring and exciting stories. Once a week, we sit down with some of these individuals to talk about their projects, so you can learn more about them and get better insights into what they are up to.
In today's interview, we spoke with Radu Panturescu, Founder of Battle of Nodes.

Hello Radu, thank you for your time. It's a pleasure to discuss your project with you! First, can you please tell us more about yourself and your professional background?
Thank you for this opportunity!
I have studied economics, with a background in finance and investments. I am a gamer at heart with a passion for building and I love the MultiversX chain. I was always the “entrepreneur” kid with a fire to create, build, learn, and explore new opportunities.
I discovered MultiversX (Elrond at the time) the day that the Maiar app launched (around 2-3 years ago). I was amazed by the work ethic of the team and the tech they have developed, and I knew that this was going to be something huge.
As soon as NFTs started to roll out I took the chance and launched myself in the most difficult thing I have ever done, but one that has been extremely rewarding, and fun to build from the ground up, as I started alone at the beginning.
Can you tell us more about Battle of Nodes, where the idea came from, and what's the project's purpose?
Battle of nodes is a fast-paced Trading Card Game, that is free to play & play to earn.
The game has abordable rules, is fun to play with a complex enough gameplay for veteran players. Beautiful graphics coupled with a fun theme revolving around the MultiversX blockchain, The Nodes and the Bots that ruled the earth were in search for more power to accelerate their development. But after a great “Chain Split” of their main nodes nature got corrupted, with hordes of zombies and supernatural creatures coming to life, it is the robots duty to defeat them.
The art is unique for each card and are pretty with vibrant colors and expressive creatures. You can use spells, creatures, and traps to destroy your opponent and get the victory! We will have a normal matchmaking, ranked and tournament systems. We will also experiment with different game-modes such as 2x2, free 4 all, etc.
Battle of Nodes was an idea that I was dreaming of building ever since I was playing Hearthstone competitively (before discovering MultiversX). The idea came to me once I saw what the MultiversX blockchain has achieved technologically, and finally allowing us to create a Trading Card Game (TCG) where you can actually trade cards, skins, and even earn while having fun.

What are you currently working on, and what are the following steps to be achieved for the project?
Right now I am focusing on world building, preparing the next set of cards, expansions, events and game modes.
At the same time, we are preparing the launch of physical products such as card sets, physical booster packs, booster boxes for collectors and much more!

The 1st Edition BON pack is Sold-out, and you're currently minting some other Packs. Can you tell us more about these Packs and what kind of Cards can be found inside them?
Certainly! The OG pack was the 1st Edition Pack, which is now sold out, and only purchasable on secondary markets. It has a low 2000 limited supply. But keep in mind that our booster pack opening system burns a pack once opened to retrieve the cards inside, so the total supply is getting lower everyday, making it that much more special and rare.
Our other pack is the Basic Pack, with a 6,000 total supply. This pack, once opened, will give out a total of 6 random cards from the Base Set collection, with a lower percentage chance of getting a legendary card.
Our 1st Edition Pack gives the holder some cool benefits and perks (for example: airdrops of future NFT collections, free entry in the Tournaments, merch and much more), but if holders decide to open them, they will be rewarded with some beautiful shiny cards, and a higher percentage chance of getting some awesome and rare cards.

You already hosted a DEMO Event. How many people joined the event, and when do you plan to host another one?
During our DEMO event, we tested out all the functionalities: multiplayer, matchmaking, ranked system, card system, server resiliency, deck creation, xPortal connection and player capacity.
A total of 300 players participated in the DEMO event, with a peak of 50 players at one time playing against one another. We play to host a public Alpha Event sometimes around the end of May, where everyone will be invited to join, play and give feedback (free entry).

Thank you for your time Radu, and the exciting insights! Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you for this interview! I would like to add that if anyone reading this is a fan of Trading Card Games, please head on over to our website and check out everything we have built. We would love some feedback and honest opinions on what we created so far.
